IMAGIME

Name of event: Imagine
Oganizer: Others Are Us
Place: Fordam University.

I attended an exhibit on Thurday November 20th at Fordam University. The exhibit was a selection of artwork by students from eight countries around the world. The dates of artwork exhibited range from as long as 2002 to this present year. Each theme that was display has been color-coded repesenting the lives of young people involved. The artwork exhibits the personal expression of children's hopes and fears. the name and colors of each exhibits are as follows: Attitudes and misconcepts about other-orange, we're all students together-light blue, Best friends froever-green, Family-dark blue, Fashion rocks!-purple, I dreamed a dream-yellow, Gender-red, Other Are Us-building hope, preventing conflict-black.

By attending this exhibit, I realized that children every where have similar dreams and hopes. It also made me realize that what is happening in any country has a great impact on children all around the world. As an educator, this is one activity that would be nice to get my student involved with. It's a way that people get to hear what children have to say.

This sounds like such a wonderful exhibit. It has been said that art is one of the major means of communication that can be understood across cultures and countries. It is interesting that in this particular exhibit, specific colors represented themes. That would be a fun perspective from which to teach an art lesson! I can definitely see this as a great educational field trip.

This event reminds me of the Paint Club in NYC. This is an after school program which will organize teenagers in NYC to repaint the institutions in the community for free. By adding a little bit color, these teenagers changed the environment of these institutions, and also change how people in the community look at them. I am very happy to learn that children could discover their ability through doing such beautiful work.
