Call+Response Film

Event: Call+Response Film
Date: Dec. 4, 2008
Time: 2 hours

This is a WONDERFUL (yet heartbreaking) film - go see it! Call+Response is a documentary about human trafficking all over the world. It focuses on child sex slavery, labor slavery and "war children" (kids forced and brainwashed into becoming soldiers throughout Africa). Although many parts of the film were hard to watch, there were many opportunities discussed to help stop human trafficking and this movie strongly motivates you to do so. The film features songs from many different music artists that they wrote specifically for this film, to help raise awareness about this terrible trade. The film was made 100% by donations and gives 100% of its' profit towards this current-day abolitionist movement. Just by seeing the movie you are donating $15 to help tons of enslaved human beings, and once you see it you will want to do more, trust me. There is a walk next September that will be happening in NYC to raise awareness for these issues, so please get involved! There is so much that we can do...

I have to admit that I was naive to the fact that so many young girls (ranging from age THREE to NINETEEN..) are being literally trapped in brothels and forced into having sex with thousands of strangers a year. It is sickening to hear firsthand about what these GIRLS go through. First, they are tricked into taking a new "job" that they are told will help them support their families. Once they arrive at their new "job", they are usually locked up in a small cell without any food until they agree to having sex with their first client. They are often raped and beaten until they are made to feel so small and helpless that they finally break down and agree to have sex with clients. The girls are often given drugs like crystal meth in order to keep them at the brothel (if they do leave, they will be without the drug so they often end up coming back). This is a horrible, horrible thing that is going on and it needs to stop!

Just visit the website, callandresponse.com, and read about the film and the issues that it brings forth. In 2007, slave traders made more money that Google, Nike, and Starbucks combined - how is this happening?!? The film will be playing at Tribeca Cinemas until Dec. 14, so if you get a chance you should really try to see it or at least visit the website and read more about this terrible business.

I saw Deanna a few days after she saw this film and she was still extremely affected by it. She says that it is hard to watch, but even hearing that girls as young as age 3 are forced into brothels is extremely hard to take in. It is hard to believe that anyone could actually live with themselves doing this to other people. Being a girl, it is hard to think of myself as well as many people I love and care about being subjected to something like this. That people would actually use a drug addiction to keep them their is sickening. Forcing them to have sex, and if they don't do so, witholding food? It makes me cringe. I think it is really important to bring awareness to sex trafficking. I think I want to go see it. It is awesome to hear that all the profits go to abolishing this horrifying act. More awareness needs to be raised about this issue, because I personally haven't been exposed to this before.

After reading you bolb about the film "call and Response" I could just imagine how you were sicken to the stomach. It reminded me of the movie I saw "Blood Diamond". The father was looking for his son. When he found him, he was brainwashed into being a soldier and he did not recognise his father. Sometimes I wonder why should children have to go through terrible situations like what you mentioned. I could only imagine the impact this have on children. Also these young girls being trapped in brothel and forced to have sex with strangers. If you have not ever seen things like these, you would not believe that they exist today. However, as upsetting as it is they still do. I agree with you that the brutal enslavement of children need to stop.
